President Rodrigo R. Duterte says imposing visa restrictions to Americans bound for the Philippines must be considered.
In his talk with the Filipino community at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Beijing (watch the video below this post), he lamented that Americans can easily visit the Philippines while Filipinos are given a hard time entering the western country or denied.
“Anytime, they can enter the Philippines visa free. Well, there will always be a time for reckoning. Bakit di natin tablahin (Why don’t we even the score)?” he said.
He recalled an instance when he was suspected of trying to stay permanently in the US while applying for a visa. At that time, Duterte was just a college student planning to visit his girlfriend in the US.
President Duterte said he told the US consul: “Even if you offer me free visas for a lifetime and even if you offer me $10,000. I’ll still return to my country and be a Filipino.”
The Philippines is not included in the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) that enables nationals of certain countries to travel to the United States for tourism or business for stays of 90 days or less without obtaining a visa.

I already thought about this visa issue and many people said that we cannot do this visa thing because we are a third world country, that is why first and second class countries can go here without restrictions.Now that the President said this and saw the burden of our citizens, now it is time to make things right and fair. This era is not a racist time anymore, we Filipinos are human being and as a human we are all equal and we deserved an equal rights.
It is time for us to create our own foreign policy, like what Americans did and created the Visa Waiver Program. Americans should also get a visa when entering our country.
