MAKATI, Nov. 25 - The Department of Trade & Industry (DTI) and the Board of Investments (BOI) in partnership with United States Assistance for Development (USAID) and the Japan for International Cooperation Agency (JICA) are bringing together partners and stakeholders in reviving the Philippine manufacturing industry through the Philippine Manufacturing Summit 2016 on November 28-29 at the Makati Shangrila Hotel.
With the theme “Trabaho at Negosyo,” the Summit aims to assess the local industries and implementation of the country’s new industrial policy, and thereafter formulate policy directions, guidelines, and programs of the administration (covering trade, investment, and MSME development) to pursue industrialization that will create quality jobs and reduce poverty towards shared prosperity for all.
The two-day summit will commence with panel discussions on the future of Philippine manufacturing and how to maximize opportunities and address challenges in the industry.

It will be followed by breakout sessions covering seven major themes:
(1) Competitive and Innovative Industries;
(2) Labor, Human Resource Development, and Skills Training;
(3) Physical Infrastructure;
(4) Ease of Doing Business;
(5) SME Development and Inclusive Business;
(6) Incentives and other Government Support Measures; and
(7) International Trade Policy and Free Trade Agreements.
Prior to the Summit, a number of pre-Summit meetings were conducted for each breakout session group to discuss the issues and concerns about the manufacturing industry. The results of these meetings will be discussed during the Summit’s breakout sessions, and will then be subject to the plenary’s consideration for prioritization.
On Day 2, there will be speeches from key individuals in the manufacturing sector and a panel composed of successful Filipino companies engaged in manufacturing and agribusiness, who will offer their valuable insights and share their experience in growing their businesses and creating jobs.
The results of the Summit breakout session will then be presented to high level officials of concerned government agencies during their dialogue with Summit participants. Speakers and participants in the Summit will include key officials from the government, industry associations/business chambers, and other stakeholders (academic/research community, donor agencies) coming from all over the country.
