Gilas Pilipinas may just get a high-profile supporter in their game against France in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City on Tuesday.
Presidential Communications Operation Office secretary Martin Andanar announced over state-run radio dzRB that no less than President Rodrigo Duterte himself may come to watch the national team.
"Malaki po ang posibilidad na manood po ang Pangulo whether live or sa telebisyon," Andanar said.
Last month, Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) executive director Sonny Barrios visited Duterte in Davao City to invite the then president-elect to the Olympic qualifier in July.
Duterte's aide Bong Go was also seen in attendance during Gilas PIlipinas' tuneup game against Turkey on Friday at Mall of Asia Arena.
The national team is vying for one of the remaining three slots in the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in August.
